Ilam Pathibhara

The temple of Pathibhara in Illam, also known as Sano Pathibhara lies in Hanspokhari on the southeast of Kolbung VDC. The temple in Taplejung and the temple in Illam are believed to be sisters, and the one in Illam is said to bethe younger one. Hence, the name has “Sano” (meaning small) in front of it.It also serves as a secondary route to Mt. Kanchenjunga trek. Birtamode, Jhapa is the starting point for the route to Pathibhara. It is around 20 kilometres from Birtamode and is easily accessible via the Mechi Highway. The climb to the temple for prayer consists of 1040 steps, making for a quick and exhilarating hiking experience.

Pathibhara Devi shrine is a well-known pilgrimage spot where devotees who come with great faith are said to get their wishes granted. With wholehearted trust, the pilgrims pray to the Goddess and present their resolutions (Bhakal in Nepali). Both Hindus and Buddhists hold tremendous regard for the deity. Even members of the ex-royal family are said to be the worshipper of this Devi. To appease the goddess, visitors offer animal sacrifices, gold, and silver.The Goddess of Pathibhara is said to grant the wishes of her devotees. People believe she fulfilsBhakals such as sons to unmarried couples, wealth to the destitute, and so on. Pilgrims from all across Nepal and India travel to this site to place their Bhakals in the hopes of having their wishes granted.

After visiting Pathibhara temple, one can visit Kutidadabazaar, where a variety of local products including as vegetables, ghee, chhurpi, and akabare khursani. Besides the cultural significance of the temple, the surrounding also provides a beautiful view of the Kanchenjunga Range. The lush green forest on the way has a diversity of wildlife, birds, flowers, etc., enhancing the location of the temple.The climb to the temple for prayer consists of 1040 steps, making for a quick and exhilarating hiking experience. There are stalls showcasing small souvenirs at the entrance that pilgrims can buy as a memory of their visit to the Pathibhara Temple.
