Chhinnamasta Temple also known as “Sakhada Temple” is a famous Shakti-Peeth of eastern Nepal situated on Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality of Rajbiraj district on Province 2 of Nepal. It is 10 Km south from district headquarter Rajbiraj and very near from Indian boarder. Thousands of Hindu devotee come to worship here from all over Nepal and many parts of India. Thousands of goats are sacrificed here on the occasion of Dashain Festival here.
According to legendary history this temple was established by fifth offspring king of king Nanyadeva(the king of Tirhut kingdom know known as Karnataka in India). As Muslim attacked the kingdom of king Nanyadeva, he escaped from there and came to settle Simroungadh Bara, Nepal. Later the fifth king Sakrasinha Dev came to saptari to rest his remaining life. The area was covered with dense forest and on the process of clearing it ancient statue of Goddess Bhagawati found and this temple was established by king Sakrasinha Dev. On his name the tmple is called Sakhada Bhagawati temple also.
